Cash Rebate Shopping Series: “Having a Baby” Necessities

When you have a baby, sure you want all the fun stuff like clothes, shoes and toys for your child. And yes, you will need a crib, probably a changing table and that all important diaper genie if you’re using disposables. However, we can’t forget about the “boring” stuff, you know, the stuff that keeps them clean, fed and dry! Diapers and formula. Otherwise known as “the necessities.”

Normally, I shop for everything online through cash rebate sites. Unbelievably so, for us, with diapers, wipes, formula and baby food, shopping at the store was a better idea. HOWEVER, it isn’t a bad idea to compare pricing and see if this is the case, because MANY times you can find a sale at an online store with FREE SHIPPING and earn cash rebates on the purchase. If you’re a first time buyer at Diapers.com, you can get 10% off your first purchase of diapers and they are offering free 2 day shipping right now. Prices are pretty comparable to most stores, it’s really up to you on how you feel about ordering them online, or running out to the store when you need them. We always found so many coupons for the brick and mortar stores, we normally just bought them at supermarkets when the diapers were on sale. Breaking from my normal way of shopping, but I didn’t do the shopping for these, this was all the husband’s doing!

HOWEVER, if you want to go the more “environmental” route, but do not want to do the cloth diaper thing, you can do the gDiapers. gDiapers are the only certified 100% biodegradable diapers around. You purchase the gPant, then the gRefills for inside the reusable gPant. These can be purchased at a few brick and mortar stores, like Babies “R” Us and Buy Buy Baby, or Wild By Nature if you have them around. Of course, my whole point of bringing it up to you is that you can also purchase them on line at Babies “R” Us and Diapers.com. Which you can earn cash rebates when shopping through ShopAtHome, or Mr. Rebates.

Here’s the breakdown for gDiapers at Babies “R” Us and Diapers.com:

  • Both stores have comparable pricing.
  • Both stores seem to offer free shipping once you hit a certain amount. Diapers.com gives you free shipping on orders over $49 and has FREE returns. Right now, with the free shipping at Babies “R” Us, you have to have an order of $100 or more and they only allow free shipping up to a $25 value. Plus, you’ll get charged sales tax no matter where you’re from, because Babies “R” Us is EVERYWHERE!
  • Babies “R” Us seems to have more variety with their two packs of gPants, but Diapers.com has a nicely priced Sweet Bundle that includes 6 gPants and 4 gRefills and sells the gPants individually as well.
  • Diapers.com offers just 1% cash rebate at ShopAtHome and Mr. Rebates, whereas Babies “R” Us gives 2% cash rebate at both ShopAtHome and Mr. Rebates.

Now, FORMULA. Listen, I’m the first to admit, I was not into breastfeeding. It didn’t appeal to me. I went the way of the formula. For my first child, we started with Similac (sign up for freebies and coupons here–> SIMILAC FORMULA COUPONS), but had to move to Isomil (with the Soy Base) because Little Miss had a strange reaction to the Similac. For the second one, we were lucky, The Boy took to the Similac fine and we used the Advance Early Shield. He loved it. We loved it. It was all good. Now the beauty of being a new Mom is that you can sign up for a TON of freebies for formula. Every formula out there has a website, just have to sign up for samples and freebies for the one you use. I still get formula coupons for ones I never even used, along with Similac. Good Start, Enfamil, Parent’s Choice and the list goes on. I didn’t even sign up for all of them, but for some reason I kept getting free samples and coupons for them. I gave most of the ones we did not use away, kept the Similac ones. It was great. We saved a lot of money with free samples and HUGE coupons for $5.00 off, $10 off, $1.00 off…..it was extremely helpful.

Now, we shopped for our formula at brick and mortar stores, just looked for sales and used our many coupons. However, if you don’t sign up to get the coupons and free samples, you can always turn to online stores like Diapers.com for great prices on formula. Plus free shipping, which you know you’ll qualify for since the formula is going to bring you right over that $49 threshold for free shipping. You’ll find the prices at your local grocery store and Walmart to be about the same prices as you find on Diapers.com…….so buy it online and earn some cash rebates for it, right? We would purchase it from Walmart and it was normally around $21.99. We were able to use our coupons that we signed up for (they don’t come as often as you need to buy formula, TRUST ME, but they helped offset some of the cost over the long run).  However, when we didn’t, or when you don’t have the coupons, head over to Diapers.com where the price for the Similac Advance Early Shield is $21.99. Buy in bulk and qualify for free shipping and get the 1% cash rebate. Super easy and you won’t have to worry about heading to the store for it, it will come right to you at your doorstep!
