Don’t let it be a chore. Don’t think of it like a chore. I keep repeating this to myself when it comes to my LEAST FAVORITE social media channel, A.K.A. Twitter. I’m not a fan. I can say it. I’m okay with people hating me for not loving the very popular Twitter. At least, I wasn’t a fan before. I’m warming up to it………little at a time, little at a time.
Thanks to @grattongirl, otherwise known as Sarah-Jayne Gratton, the author of Follow Me! Creating a Personal Brand with Twitter®, I’m starting to understand Twitter a little more. Accepting the fact that it’s really a fantastic way to touch base with all my favorite people, and brands, and companies. In my mind, I always thought of it as such a hassle. It took too much time, went too fast, and had absolutely no worth for me to really get involved with it.
I was wrong. I can admit it. Follow Me! helped me embrace what I should be doing on Twitter: forming relationships. INTERACTING. And of course, sharing great information with people like me. It’s about forming a real core of people who have similar interests, and creating those bonds that only we all can understand. When you create lists in Twitter, you can have a variety of interesting people to follow, and not have a huge stream of tweets hitting you, to overwhelm you. GENIUS.
Essentially that’s what scared me off of Twitter. The huge stream of tweets that just overwhelmed me with information. I preferred to ignore it, and see if anyone noticed. Honestly, not many people noticed me, but I grew a following somehow….go figure. Mainly it happened because I joined Twellow, and a few other directories. And those tweets I sent out basically were sent right from my blog posting, or retweeting other peoples’ tweets. Turns out I was doing two things right, the other two things I was missing were THANKING and ENGAGING.
After reading the book, I’m more involved on Twitter. I’m retweeting, thanking people for their shout outs, and for following me. I’m all about sharing, and I love to interact with some of my favorite brands. It’s been kind of fun. I’m getting into it.
My favorite part of the entire book? All of the tools they tell you about at the very end. My second favorite part? At the end of each section of the book, professionals who know far more than I do about Twitter, share how they “do it.” Plus, they share what their favorite tools are for making Twitter work the best for them, and for building their personal brand.
So I just keep telling myself: it’s not a chore, it’s fun, and you need to ENJOY your time on Twitter. Fit it into your regular day of blogging, Facebooking, and being a mom.
I’m not sure I’d ever have given Twitter a deeper look if not for Follow Me!. Super glad I was given the chance to review it for Wiley. It’s available as an eBook, which is less expensive than the hard copy I received for $24.99.
I’d shoot for the eBook, better value!

Thank you so much for the great review Staci :-) – so glad you enjoyed the book and found it helpful.
I’m still learning, but it’s all about taking the steps and the journey, it’s not always about the destination. Enjoying the journey so far. Thanks for allowing to review the book!
