My favorite holiday is 4th of July! It’s a perfect holiday. No gifts exchanges, but you get to hang with friends, family and eat like there’s no tomorrow. Is there anything better? Oh yes, add a little liquid adult beverage, and your red, white, and blue to your 4th of July celebration becomes just a little bit more fun. Kids get thrown in the pool, adults laugh, talk, dance, eat, and just have fun. All we worry about are bugs, having enough adult beverages, and making sure the kids have a couple of unlucky responsible adults watching them in the pool!

Every party has a list of must-haves. These are the 4th of July celebration must-haves for your next Independence Day celebration.
Bug spray without DEET is a MUST to celebrate Independence Day.
Chemicals had their day, but now it’s all about doing everything as natural as possible. I’m into it, when products are being used directly on my skin. Well, not so much mine, because I’ve grown up with the chemicals, so I’m probably damaged forever. My goal is to try and keep my kids as chemical-free as possible, you know, to give them a shot in hell of living a healthy life. Right? Isn’t that the way of the world now? Normally I’m a trend setter, but on this one, I follow the trend. I guess the experts must know what they’re talking about, so we’ve turned to more natural and DEET free repellents. No particular allegiance to one particular brand, just as long as it’s DEET free!
Sunblock without the chemicals.
In keeping with the “no chemical” trend we’ve got going on in the world today, we’re using sunblock that doesn’t have harmful chemicals in it. It’s not always easy to find, and honestly, I miss the spray bottles. They were so much easier to use! Man, those spray sunblocks were so much faster when getting the kids slathered up with a liquid barrier between them, and the harmful rays of the sun. I do notice when using Block Organics Natural Mineral Sunscreen, there isn’t a gross film left in the pool after the kids get out. It makes me feel better when I don’t see the oil slick left in the pool. It’s sort of a reminder the kids aren’t loaded up with chemicals….
Sunglasses are mandatory for July 4th outdoor parties.
I wear sunglasses all-year-round. I’m sure most people do wear their shades throughout the year. However, for some reason, for me, summer kind of reminds me that I need a fresh look. Everyone has their “stand-by” pair of sunglasses, I’m not different. However, each summer I love to start off the season with a new pair that kind of “fit my theme” for the summer. A color like Warby Parker’s Downing in Striped Indigo is probably my favorite blue of the collection. My favorite color is blue, and normally my sunglasses are never blue. I always WANT to get blue, but I end up getting a more tortoise color. It’s hard to choose, and having Warby Parker send me five pairs of glass frames to try out to see which one is best for me, is kind of a clincher for me when shopping for shades on-line!
The perfect Nerf Super Soaker water guns help keep everyone cool during a 4th of July BBQ.
What’s a 4th of July party without some kind of water gun fun? It’s about BBQ, music, laughter, going in the pool, lots of adult beverages (for many adults, but a few have to stay away from that so the kids can be watched in the pool,) and water gun fights! Throw in a little fireworks activity at the end of the night, and it’s the perfect kind of day. We’ve been loving the Nerf Rebelle Super Soaker Dolphina Bow and the Nerf Super Soaker Tri Strike Crossbow Water Blaster since last year. Kids of all ages fight over these bad boys! Trust me, get some great water gun toys for 4th of July and watch the kid come out in everyone!
Bubble Blowing Machine.
Everyone does bubbles for the kids. Boring bubble bottles, with their little sticks that come with the bottle. SNOOZE FEST. It’s time to step that sh*% up, my friends. Put a remote control ANYTHING into a child’s, or an adult’s, hands and watch the fun begin! I mean, seriously, how can anyone resist a bubble blowing machine!
An amazing swimsuit.
If you’re a woman, you’ve reluctantly tried on bathing suits every Spring. It’s not a fun time of the year, because there’s no hiding under layers of clothing. We all tell ourselves “we’re beautiful” no matter what our bodies decide to morph into as we get a little older. I get it. I’m the same way. Trust me. However, there are bathing suits out there that make you feel beautiful while you wear them! All of your “problem” areas aren’t going to be visible when a great swimsuit slides over your curves! Or lack of curves. Personally, I’m kind of loving Miracle Swimsuits for my curvier curves.

Just like us moms, kids need new swimsuits. The kids need them because they’re still growing, which costs all of us parents a fortune. I so wish kids were only allowed to grow two inches a year, so things would fit for two seasons! Then when they’re out of the house, and buying their own stuff, that’s when they really start growing! Terrible, I know. No one said I was the world’s greatest mom!
Since we’ve got to buy the little boogers new bathing suits, we’ve got to get great ones for great prices. Right?!!! They only wear them for a few months out of the year, so spending a ton of money on them doesn’t make sense. Especially since the boys these days need rash guards to help protect from the sun! It’s a lot to buy, so make sure to find the best ones for the lowest prices!
