7 best things about Fall

Fall often comes out of nowhere, doesn’t it? One moment we’re enjoying the summer heat, and then BOOM, it’s cold every morning when I let the dog out. What happened to easing into the cooler temperatures? Is that not a thing anymore? We just go right from sweltering heat, to 40 degree temperatures at seven in the morning, now? Unreal! I guess it’s a part of the crazy “end of the world and zombies will be taking over the world” kind of life we live these days.

7 best things about fall

7 best things about Fall

In any event, there are still things that I enjoy about Fall, and I’m sharing the 7 best things about Fall as I see them (sarcasm included):

Celebrating my kids’ November birthdays.

Spring and Autumn have always been my favorite seasons. Spring and Autumn used to provide a nice transition into the Summer and Winter seasons. These days, it’s not the case. We rarely get four distinct seasons, these days. So why are they still my favorite seasons? Well, Spring does provide a little bit of relief from the snow once late April hits. Fall? Well, both my kids have their birthdays in the Fall, and I love celebrating their birthdays. We do a combined party for them, as their birthdays are just two days apart. However, we also do something special on each of their birthdays, too. We keep it more about experiences, rather than a ton of toys, because Christmas comes about a month later! What could be better than kid birthdays in the Fall? Six other things come close, but these celebrations top my list, for sure.

I get to wear big, bulky sweaters.

What? You’re thinking, she wants to wear the sweaters to hide her heavier frame, because of the weight I’ve put on thanks to battling a few “issues.” Not at all. I love big, bulky sweaters so I don’t have to wear a bra, and no one can tell I’m not wearing a bra. When you’ve got Double Ds, you can’t do that kind of thing in the warmer months. It would frighten children!

Wearing gorgeous boots.

If I can’t wear flip flops anymore, then I want to wear my riding boots all the time. Oddly, I prefer to wear them over any other footwear once the weather gets chilly. Well, it’s not really that odd. I prefer to grab socks without having to worry about if they match my outfit, or look good. One less thing to worry about as dress at lightning speeds in the morning when since I get up at the last, possible minute!

I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve run out in mismatched socks, but thanks to the fact that I’ve got boots on, no one ever knows! Plus, my daughter and I have boots that match, and she’s still at an age where she likes to “match” me. Super cute!

Darker shades of polish on my toe nails.

Normally, for my manicures I like to choose nudes, or lighter colors, so that if they chip, it doesn’t bug me until I can get to doing my nails again. My toes? I like to go darker. I’m talking deep reds, coppers, and rich browns. Most of all, I love to put a navy blue color on my toes. If they chip, it’s cool. I won’t see them under the socks, and boots!

Homemade Soup.

There’s something about fall that brings out the soup lover in everyone! All of a sudden thousands of recipes show up on Pinterest, and they are all soups you can do on the stove, or in the slow cooker. Personal favorites: French Onion, Butternut Squash, Tomato Parmesan, Cheeseburger, and Loaded Potato. Delicious. I’m sending the hubby out to purchase all the goodies to make these soups in my crockpot, and on the stove top.

Hot Beverages I can put alcohol in.

Coffee is nice, but I don’t drink it all that often. I’d rather have fun, spiked cocktails that happen to be hot. You know, great ones like Hot Apple Cider Buttered Rum Cocktails from Serena Bakes Simply FROM SCRATCH!

Pumpkin Pie.

‘Tis the Pinterest season for pumpkin spiced, or pumpkin flavored, recipes.

  • coffees
  • donuts
  • cupcakes
  • pancakes
  • and so much more

Listen, the only thing PUMPKIN necessary: pie. Just pie with a great, flaky crust and lots of homemade whipped cream on top of the pumpkin pie. Don’t sneak pumpkin into my pancakes, or waffles, or donuts.

I do have another one I love, but I can’t do at my house YET. I’m hoping we can tackle our deck, and yard this Spring. What do I want more than anything else in our yard? A fire pit! There’s something about being outside in the Fall, at night, with a great fire to sit around! Roasting marshmallows, and enjoying those hot beverages I can put alcohol in! However, until I have a fire pit of my very own, I felt it wasn’t right to place it on my 7 best things about Fall. It felt dirty….. anyway…..

Good stuff! Although I recently posted about the things I hate about fall, I do love homemade soup, but hubby, the master chef at my house, makes it year round. Pumpkin pie is my favorite too, but I’m the only one in the house who likes it.

Soup is my favorite, but we don’t get to do a lot of cooking throughout the year. We bulk up in Autumn, because those have my favorite flavors!!! Delicious!
