Eco friendly skin products

But there are small changes you can make to your beauty collection, both with the products that you buy now and with products you might want to consider using in the future, that will have a positive impact on the environment. Below are a few tips to help you find more eco-friendly skin products and practices.

Recycle Beauty Product Packaging

Most beauty products come in plastic containers, and packaged inside of paper and plastic. All these products are recyclable.

Quick fact: Adult individuals make about 5 pounds of waste a day, which seriously adds up over time. Making a few of your own products at home could significantly reduce this number.

Make Your Beauty Products at Home

Another way to practice eco-friendliness on a budget: make your own make-up and beauty products at home. Below are a few tips for some easy things you can make right in your own kitchen:

Oatmeal scrub

Oatmeal soothes the skin. Even better? Grinding it up creates a perfect exfoliation product. It’s best to buy organic oats from your local market –since organic foods don’t have anything synthetic like pesticides in them.

Create a mixture of water and/or milk and oatmeal together. You can also add lemon juice, which acts as a skin lightening agent and will also help even out skin tone. Wherever your skin needs nourishment or exfoliation, use an oatmeal scrub.

Sugar scrub

Sugar is a great, natural exfoliant –and again, it is best to buy organic. Create an all-natural body scrub by mixing sugar with water; or, mixed with water and lemon juice. It’s best to make a fresh mixture every time you wish to use it. The reason: sugar invites ants and other bugs into the moist shower environment because it’s so sweet.

Quick tip: The skin care products you make at home won’t last as long as packaged products since they do not contain synthetic agents to help them last for weeks or even months sometimes. Dispose of them properly to ensure your best health.

Environmentally-Friendly Companies

There are companies out there, however, producing environmentally-friendly beauty products. Small, localized beauty stores are more likely to use organic products, so see if there’s anything available. If not, there are plenty of products that can be found online that are good for both your wallet and the environment.

Meanwhile, sometimes larger companies offer up good deals. MAC will give a customer a free lipstick if they bring any six recyclable make-up containers into the store. These programs aren’t widely publicized, but are out there!

Make a few small changes in your home in order to be more eco-friendly. Creating your own skin care products will even save you a lot of money over time. The products are also better for your skin in general since they are all-natural.
