Hunt for discounts.

You never have to pay full price for an item you want to add to your wardrobe. Look at sale ads from all types of stores to find interesting pieces. Shop clearance racks (even though chasing down bargains can take patience and time). Be sure to save coupons you find online, or receive in the mail. End-of-season sales can be a great opportunity to find something you can wear the following year. Just because you can’t put a blouse or skirt into immediate rotation, doesn’t mean it won’t eventually be a go-to choice. Always be on the lookout for deals to start acquiring for your collection.

Don’t be afraid to be thrifty.

Consignment shops, along with thrift stores, are great places to get clothes for any season. Now is the time when retailers are beginning to shift to warmer-weather apparel. When you find something you like, look over it carefully for stains and tears before making the purchase. If you’re a little handy, you can buy something needing a small repair and end up with a good-as-new piece. In order to find new-to-you items, check back every week, or two. Many items are donated, as well as sold back, daily.

Scout out ideas.

Pinterest and Polyvore are all the rage these days and are great places to find ideas for putting together cute outfits. Browse collections you like to find key pieces to add to your wardrobe. A few multipurpose selections can make a big difference in your options for what to wear as spring draws closer.

Shop knock-offs.

Flip through your favorite magazines to get ideas for the latest trends, but don’t feel you have to buy the designer clothing they highlight. Instead, hit up your favorite stores and look for similar fashions to put together a great-looking alternative for a fraction of the cost.

Trust in accessories.

Wardrobe staples, like neutral-tone slacks and a crisp button-down shirt, can look like an entirely new outfit depending on how you dress up your look. Shop according to trend to get an in-style bracelet, pair of shoes, or bag that won’t require an overhaul of your closet.

Pop into boutiques.

Although they can sometimes be expensive, boutiques can also be great places to get deals on classic styles you can wear year after year. Investing in well-made designs will be better than having to replenish cheap clothes every year.

Regardless of your budget, these strategies can help you get a good start on your spring wardrobe. Take it one item at a time and remember you can add to your collection slowly. You don’t have to go broke to look runway-ready this spring.
