Living Alone for the First Time? 3 Ways to Keep Your Home Safe

Here are three ideas that can help to make your home safer.

Have a Protective Weapon

When it comes down to home intruders, many carry weapons with them. So, to fight fire with fire, you’ll need to have your own weapon. There are many options to choose from and any gun dealer can advise you on what makes and models are going to be the most useful. One good option is something like the Kel-Tec Ksg Ksgblk 12 Gauge Shotgun which packs a big punch but can also be effectively used at a short range distance.

Install Outside Lighting

One of the best ways to deter criminals from entering your home is to have adequate outside lighting. If you were given the choice between a well-lit home and one that is black as night, which home are you going to break into? If you do any looking online, you’ll find supporters for both sides. One stating that lights deter criminals, while others state that criminals have trouble seeing in the dark so they’re less likely to hit that home. The studies show that crimes are less likely to happen in well-lit areas, so get your motion sensor lights installed.

Change to Keyless Locks

We all know the trick of hiding your spare key under the mat, the flowerpot, or above the door frame. Criminals check these places to easily get into your home. By upgrading to keyless locks, you can eliminate spare key hiding from your regular practices. In addition, without the keyhole in the door, criminals can’t pick the lock. Many of these keyless locks use fingerprint authorization or smartphone apps to unlock the door. This is perfect as you don’t need to worry about carrying around a key anymore.

Living on your own for the first time can be a scary experience. Keeping yourself and your items safe is going to be one of your top priorities. By getting a protective weapon, installing outdoor lighting, and changing to keyless locks, you can make it harder for intruders to get into your home.
