Don’t Like Running? Try One of These 4 Fun Alternative Cardio Exercises!

Exercise is a vital part of our lives, and we would all benefit from making it a habit. Among many exercises, running is a great cardio activity with numerous benefits including boosting heart health and supporting healthy joints. Unfortunately, running also has the reputation of being tedious or boring.

Running Not Your Thing? Try One of These 4 Fun Alternative Cardio Exercises!

If you aren’t a fan of running, here are four alternative cardio exercises that are just as beneficial.

Jump Rope

This playground staple is one of the best cardio exercises out there. It’s also low-impact and relatively easy compared to running. As far as equipment goes, all you need is a jump rope. According to scientific studies, a ten-minute jump rope session provides the same “cardio efficiency” as a thirty-minute jogging session. To keep things interesting for yourself, you can add variations like side-to-side jumping, jumping on one foot, or alternating your feet.

Trampoline

Trampolines have emerged as an effective piece of equipment for the home gym. While they provide similar benefits as a treadmill, they are much more affordable and portable in comparison. When purchasing a trampoline for cardio, make sure to look for a product that’s rated for exercise, such as a rebounder.

Stationary Bike

With a phalanx of stationary bikes available in every gym, indoor cycling is just as accessible as running on a public sidewalk. Also, you probably have multiple indoor cycling classes available in your local area, so there’s potential to turn this into a group activity. This exercise is relatively low-impact and easier on the joints compared to running, making it ideal for people with joint issues or minor injuries. To get the most out of your cycling session, adjust the height of the seat to your hip bone and set the resistance to a level where you are challenging, but not straining, yourself.

Rowing Machine

The rowing motion engages nearly every muscle in your body. By adding the resistance of a machine, you can also carve your core, back, leg, and arm muscles while elevating your heart rate at the same time. To perform well at this exercise, you must use proper form and engage your legs. It takes practice to get right but provides one of the most effective workouts for your body.

The best cardio workout for you is the one that you can realistically commit to. By finding an activity that you actually enjoy, you are more likely to stick to your exercise regimen and reach your fitness goals.
