Earlier this month everyone enjoyed some pizza on National Cheese Pizza Day. And, back in February, we celebrated National Pizza Day with some amazing pizza recipes. TODAY, I’m honoring my personal favorite kind of pizza for National Pepperoni Pizza Day with a few of my favorite recipes you can make in your own kitchen.
Recipes to Honor & Celebrate National Pepperoni Pizza Day
Pepperoni has always been my favorite topping on my pizza. I’m also a big fan of pepperoni in my Stromboli, and similar to the Stromboli is a pizza pop which just focuses on pepperoni, but is almost identical to a traditional Stromboli. Basically, everything’s better with pepperoni – including pizza. So National Pepperoni Pizza Day is a MUST CELEBRATE kind of day for me and mine. Let’s head into the kitchen and see which pepperoni pizza recipe makes your heart sing!
Cast Iron Skillet Pepperoni Pizza
Lucky enough to have a well-seasoned cast iron skillet on your stove top? I say on your stove top because usually one of those bad boys lives on a stove top because it is too damn heavy to continue storing it in a cabinet! Maybe yours is in a kitchen cabinet, but I bet it isn’t. Regardless of where you store it, did you know you can make a killer pepperoni pizza in that beloved cast iron skillet. WHAT???!!! Yes.
Chicago-style Deep Dish with Pepperoni (with scratch made dough and sauce)
I know, I know, this also has sausage. However, with a deep dish style pizza, you kind of need the extra meat, so I’m okay with it. BUT, if you don’t want to use it, skip it. But the sausage does match well with pepperoni, so be open to it when making this recipe from Cooking with Cocktail Rings.
New York Style Pepperoni Pizza
Once again, you make your own dough with this one, and if you have your own sauce you can use that, but with Sloane’s Table’s NY style recipe she doesn’t include a sauce from scratch. So do with that what you want. The dough is fairly simple and standard, it’s just knowing how to stretch it by hand that makes this recipe NEW YORK. We like it thin here in New York. Crispy and strong enough to handle not just the sauce and cheese, but also the topping!
Homemade Pizza Crust Topped with Homemade Sauce Finished with Pepperoni
If you want to have a completely homemade pizza, you’ll enjoy Cooking Classy’s pepperoni pizza recipe. The only thing not scratch made is the pepperoni. But if you know how to make that, go for it! What I don’t do is take his recommendation for turkey pepperoni – I ignore that part. Just use regular pepperoni in this house. On the flip side, I love the inclusion of garlic in the topping.
If worse comes to worse and you don’t have time to do your own dough, head to the local pizza place or any supermarket to pick up a ball of dough. And if you really don’t have time to make your own pizza on National Pepperoni Pizza Day, as a last resort, call in a take out order to your favorite pizza place! Today’s really about honoring the beauty of the pepperoni pizza. So enjoy National Pepperoni Pizza Day however it’s easiest for you and yours.
