Reading is one of my favorite things to do…..or, it was before I had kids. Actually, after I had the second, and started writing my blog……
Anyway, it’s also a favorite for both of my kids. My daughter has become a rather strong reader, after a few struggles in the beginning. She now reads avidly, and loves to read to her little brother. It’s kind of a huge bonus for me, because now I don’t have to read to BOTH of them every night. Little Miss can do it! She reads an easier one to her brother, and then goes and reads chapter books that challenge her. The Boy? He takes the books, and tries to read. He’ll learn……that’s what Kindergarten is for, right?!!!
Our favorite Summer Reading Program is the TD Bank one. They both read 10 books, and earn $10 in their TD Bank accounts. It’s the cutest thing EVER. They love it, and while we’re there, we use the coin counting machine to increase their savings! Piggy banks are emptied into the machine, and slowly but surely, their accounts earn some savings for them just for reading every Summer. It’s the bank account I allow them to consider “their” money. The other one I have is money being saved for the future, when they hit 18 years of age!
Want in on this? Your kids will love it, I promise! Here’s the direct link to the TD Bank Summer Program details for 2013! If you know about the program and just want the form to fill out, here you go: TD Bank Summer Reading Program Form
Your kids don’t have to have an account, they can start one with their first reading program participation. If your children have an account, they just take the list and deposit the $10 into the account. It started in May of 2013, and you have until September 30, 2013, to finish the 10 books and bring it down to your local TD Bank. Kids must be 18 years of age, or YOUNGER.
