If you’re going to do a family road trip, pirates should be involved. Am I right? I thought so. We’re Long Islanders, and we do a lot of activities on this Island I love so much. However, there are a few occasions where we leave the Island and head to other nearby family-friendly destinations. By nearby, I mean within driving distance, of course. Jersey isn’t always our first choice, but if pirates are involved, we head to Tuckerton Seaport for their Privateers & Pirates Family Festival!

Where does one stay if attending the Tuckerton Seaport Privateers & Pirate Family Festival

Mama Sunflower isn’t big on camping. It’s not my idea of vacation traveling. I won’t even consider sleeping in a tent, unless it’s INSIDE of my house, on top of a mattress of some kind. Another luxury I won’t go without? Plumbing. If I have to pee, or anything else, in the woods, there’s no way I’m going to get involved. Trust me on these facts. However, with all of that information shared, I don’t mind roughing it without internet, and television. I’m all for staying in a cabin, as long as there’s a bathroom I can use. A bathroom with a flushing toilet, and a sink to wash up in. No mirror needed, as I rarely look into a mirror when I’m home. Just running water, attached to plumbing. You know, it’s the little things in life!

When traveling such a long distance for a family-friendly festival, there’s a need to kind of stay overnight. It lessens the stress of the trip, and it’s just lovely to be able to relax after enjoying a full day of fun. The place to stay while attending the Tuckerton Seaport Privateers & Pirates Family Festival is the Sea Pirate Campground. Yup. The word camp is in there, you read it right. The good thing? They have bathrooms with real plumbing. The bad thing? No much in the way of internet. Being off-grid for a few nights might make me nuts, but I’m willing to take the chance to be able to enjoy the family event at the Tuckerton Seaport!

So, there’s a place to stay after the full day of fun. Great. Now, let’s find out what’s happening during the family fun event! By the looks of the name of the Tuckerton Seaport event, there will be pirate-related activities.

  • A battle between Captain Black & the Crew of the Valhalla AND Bloody Historical Privateers of the Northern Star
  • Pirates for Sail Live Band
  • Interactive Pirate Adventure
  • Pirate Ship Obstacle Course
  • Treasure Hunt
  • Learn about the Golden Age of Piracy
  • Posing on the Plank Costume Contest
  • Amputation Demonstration (I’m kind of ramped up for this one!)

Plus, for the first time, there will also be Pirate Adventures on the PirateTimeNJ Ship! Just $10 per person gets you on-board for an interactive show, face painting, 16 water canons blasting, and as all good pirate experiences must have, TATTOOS. (Although, I do doubt those tattoos are permanent ink, of course.) The ship sets sail a few times throughout the day: 12 P.M., 1 P.M., 2 P.M., 3 P.M., and 4 P.M.

Everything kicks off with a Pirate Meet & Greet! It’ll all take place at the Tuckerton Seaport & Baymen’s Museum, located at 120 West Main Street, and only costs $8 for adults; $6 seniors; and $5 for kids ages 5 through 12. If your kids are under 5, they can get in for free. If you’re a Seaport Member, it’s also free.

Who’s going? How can you resist a weekend of Pirates on the Jersey Shore????? Perhaps I’ll see you there! Head over to learn more about the Tuckerton event, and plan your visit!

Have to miss the festival, but you want to check out all the fun? We’re cool with that, too. Follow along all weekend long with the hashtag for the event #Tuckerton and of course, get ahead of the game by following on all their social media channels!
