Every year my husband’s company has a holiday lunch. They use to do a holiday party, and everyone brought their wives, husbands, or significant others. Now, to spare all of us the torture, they do a holiday lunch. It means I no longer have to endure the holiday office party. It’s not that it was bad, or that I don’t enjoy hanging with my husband’s co-workers, but finding a babysitter is always a hassle around the holidays. At the holiday lunch, they do a White Elephant gift. Yeah, so guess what? Duane Reade holiday gifts are perfect stocking stuffers, and white elephant gifts!
What’s a White Elephant gift?
A tradition that has kind of “gotten us” a few times. It’s when everyone wraps up gifts, doesn’t label the gift in any way, and brings them to a party. When people get there, the gifts are piled up, and people are given a number. Why? Because number one picks first, and everyone after goes according to their number. Here’s the reason: each person who comes after number one, has the chance to steal any opened gifts of the persons before them, or pick a new gift to unwrap in front of everyone. It’s a vicious cycle, and someone will end up with some garbage item.
My husband came home with horrible gifts once, or twice. The following year, he re-wrapped those horrible gifts and brought them back to the party so we could “share the fun.”
Well, this year, we’re heading to Duane Reade to score some DR Gifts that will have everyone fighting over who gets to take our kick-butt gift home for the holidays. It’s going to be epic, especially since Little Miss will be choosing what the White Elephant gift will be…..
Why shop at Duane Reade for gifts for the holidays?
I’m at Duane Reade at least once a week, whether here on Long Island, or out in New York City when I travel into the city. Every store has amazing selections when it comes to gift ideas. I’m not talking buy everyone on your holiday list things from Duane Reade, but honestly, it’s such a great place for holiday shopping. It’s also the perfect place to find smaller gifts for teachers, because not only do they have items that can spoil your favorite teacher, but also gift cards to a variety of stores, restaurants, and favorite coffee shops.
If you’re looking for wrapping paper, and boxed cards, it’s basically a one-stop shop for every holiday need.
Whether it’s a White Elephant gift chosen by Little Miss.
Or, a couple of smaller items for your kids’ dance teachers. (Little Miss has one for both of her classes, and The Boy has one teacher, too.)
Even if you need last minute stocking stuffers, like a certain favorite chocolate treat your father loves…..

Personally, I’m a huge fan of the Duane Reade Pinterest page….they have the best photos of New York City. Around the holidays, you’ll appreciate it even more!
